Go Away Itchy Eyes!
Today is Saint Patrick's Day, and along with the 'wearing o' the green' we're also stepping into what could be an explosive
allergy season as more and more greenery pops up into view. With severe symptoms, prescription medications may be necessary,
and a visit to your eye doctor will be required to ensure the appropriate diagnosis is made. For those of you experiencing
milder symptoms of ocular itching, redness and tearing, there may be relief on the shelves at your nearest pharmacy.
There are several brand-name preparations of antihistamine with ketotifen available. The newest of which is Zaditor,
which relieves symptoms up to twelve hours with twice daily dosing. Other options include Alaway (Bausch
& Lomb), Claritin Eye (Schering Plough) & Refresh Eye Itch Relief (Allergan).
All are available in 5 mL bottles, but Alaway is also available in a 10 mL size, and may be a better value. If you use
any over-the-counter medication and experience little to no relief, call and make an appointment. Make sure you bring
whatever medication you have been using to determine the best course of action.

Season's Greetings...
Spring is soon to be upon us in all it's glory. The snowdrops just
popped up through the remaining snow on my front yard, and soon the crocuses will emerge. While these may be beautiful
to behold, they are harbingers of increased allergies for many of us. Beyond
their physical symptoms and the need for relief, allergies can make contact lens wear almost unbearable. Depending on
the severity of your symptoms, you may benefit from medications that will reduce your sensitivity to pollen and other airborne
allergens. If you or a loved one has experienced any of the following symptoms in the past; Redness of the eyes, swelling
of the lids, itching and tearing, contact our office and schedule an appointment. Relief is available.
