HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
We'd like to thank our patients for supporting our practice through the last year & wish all of you health and
prosperity in 2012. Eyevolution will be closed the first few days of January, reopening on Thursday the fifth
at Noon. We are also changing our scheduled hours of operation in the new year, and will be closed on Sundays &
Mondays. Our new hours thru Spring are posted at the right of this image. In the coming weeks we will
also be adding a Vision Therapy suite to Eyevolution, enhancing our practice offerings to the River Villages. Check

Multifocal Contact lenses:
My patient exclaimed, "I thought it was going to be just another Monday, but now I can SEE!!" We had been
discussing her options for vision correction with either contact lenses or progressive eyeglasses. The person in question
is a musician, and as a performer, did not wish to appear to depend upon her glasses. Seeing her fingers on her musical
instrument, the sheet music at an intermediate distance, and the conductor or cameraman at a greater distance were all important
to her, but she'd never worn contact lenses and was a little intimidated by the idea.
Once I had inserted
the lenses in her eyes she was amazed at how comfortable they were, and pleasantly surprised at how sharp the vision was at
all distances. I fit her with BIOFINITY Multifocal Contact lenses, which benefit from COOPERVISION's Balanced Progressive
Technology (tm). If you are over 40 and are frustrated by the need for reading glasses or bifocals, talk to me about
Multifocal lenses. Newer designs like the BIOFINITY lenses are offering better vision than ever before.

the SPARE Pair
It's happened plenty of times. It's ten minutes to closing time and we'll receive the frantic phone
call. "I'm travelling to (insert foreign locale) tomorrow morning and I (broke / lost / immolated / etc.) my only
pair of eyeglasses. WHAT CAN YOU DO?"
Thankfully at eyevolution, we carry a large
selection of frames and polycarbonate lenses with an antiglare & scratch resistant treatment in stock. Depending
on your prescription, we can craft a pair of single vision glasses in under an hour. We've also been able to use a patient's
own lenses, (salvaged from their former frame) and cut them into a new (albeit smaller) frame. This is very useful if
your prescription is unusual or you wear progressive lenses.
Far better of course, is to avoid the frantic
phone call altogether & make sure you have a reliable SPARE pair of eyeglasses. I know eyewear
is expensive, especially if you wear progressive lenses, but second pairs are discounted 20% if ordered at the same time as
your original pair. Take the opportunity to accessorize yourself: balance your professional look with one that's more
expressive of your (fun / mischievous / adventurous) side. The peace of mind you gain from knowing you have a spare
pair is priceless.

BACK TO COOL!
Today is the first day back to school for most of our patients. Books and school clothes have been purchased, maybe
a new cell phone or personal computer. We've seen many of our patients return for their annual exams to get updated
prescriptions and be fit for contact lenses. If your child is considering sports activities this autumn, please consider
protective eyewear. Impact resistant specs from Hilco or Liberty Eyewear can be fit with durable polycarbonate or Trivex
lenses for maximum safety. Sports-related eye injuries can have far-reaching effects beyond the initial trauma.
Traumatic cataract and glaucoma can occur following an injury, necessitating surgical and lifelong care. The following
graphic is from Prevent Blindness America. It and other information related to sports safety can be
found on their website, www.preventblindness.org
http://preventblindness.org/sites/default/files/national/documents/fact_sheets/FS09_SportsInjuries.pdf
If your child participates in any of the listed sports or is considering doing so, please consider having them
fit for the appropriate eyewear. Thank you!
